As the “voice of the taxpayer” the Advocate looks forward to hearing from the tax community during the question and answer portion of the town hall event.

In addition to the National Taxpayer Advocate’s Town Hall, the Taxpayer Advocate Service (TAS) will be hosting focus groups, presenting seminars, speaking with attendees in the Exhibit Hall and  offering attendees an opportunity to resolve their most difficult case with our onsite staff in the TAS Case Resolution Room.

Focus Groups

TAS invites tax professionals who are attending this year’s forum to sign-up and participate in our focus group sessions on “IRS Transparency” and “Tax Administration – Post Inflation Act Funding.” The knowledge and innovative ideas shared during these discussions helps TAS improve taxpayer services on these issues.

IRS Transparency: Explore how the IRS can improve its transparency learn about other areas where the IRS should be more transparent.  Also want to explore ways the IRS can approach transparency in the future including issues that may occur with various data the IRS collects.
Tax Administration – Post Inflation Act Funding: Tax practitioners’ perspective about how they and their clients feel about the IRS’ plan to spend these funds.

Please give us your perspective and thoughts in our focus group – look for the sign-up table at your respective Tax Forum.

Seminars

TAS is presenting two seminars at this year’s forums, focusing on digital communication and how to effectively work with TAS to get meaningful help for your clients.

Advocating for Taxpayers Working with the IRS in a Digital World: Exploring best practices to familiarize yourself with online accounts, web tools and IRS digital communication options to assist your clients efficiently.
Advocating for Taxpayers – How the Taxpayer Advocate Service Can Assist You and Your Clients: Understand the Taxpayer Bill of Rights, the functions of TAS, and how TAS can help you service your clients.

You do not need to sign-up in advance for seminars, but seating is first-come-first served, so be sure to get there early.

Taxpayer Advocacy Panel  and Low Income Taxpayer Clinics Outreach

Members representing the Taxpayer Advocacy Panel (TAP) and Low Income Taxpayer Clinics (LITC) will be present at each Tax Forum location to perform outreach and educate to tax practitioners about their respective programs.
