National Taxpayer Advocate Erin M. Collins Shines as One of Accounting’s Most Influential People in 2024
For the third consecutive year, Erin M. Collins, the National Taxpayer Advocate, has been recognized by Accounting Today as one of the 100 Most Influential People shaping the future of the accounting profession. This prestigious list honors trailblazing leaders who are driving progress whether by leveraging emerging technologies or empowering the people who will define the profession’s future.
Collins’ tireless advocacy for taxpayers continues to make waves. Reflecting on the honor, she shared, “As the National Taxpayer Advocate, part of my mission is to identify the challenges individuals and businesses face while striving to comply with the tax system, and to collaborate with the IRS on practical solutions. I’m deeply grateful that these efforts have been recognized. Being included alongside so many inspiring leaders is both humbling and motivating. I remain dedicated to pushing for common-sense solutions to tough issues and safeguarding taxpayer rights.”
Accounting Today spotlighted Collins’ unwavering commitment to constructive accountability noting:
“It sometimes seems as if Collins’ real constituency is the unvarnished truth: She is never afraid to speak honestly (and usefully) about every aspect of the tax system, whether that means chastising the IRS for its frequent shortcomings, calling out Congress for not funding the tax agency sufficiently, and even critiquing her own organization when it doesn’t serve taxpayers as it should.”
Collins joins a distinguished group of honorees, including U.S. Secretary Janet Yellen, IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel, Taxpayer Service Chief Ken Corbin, and Direct File Service leader Bridget Roberts. These leaders are recognized for their pivotal roles in securing IRS funding and enhancing taxpayer services.
